Summary
Reporting to Student Development Specialist, the Orientation and Belonging Coordinator works to offer programming which supports the orientation and onboarding of new students while advising the process to recognize active registered student organizations. These two functional areas of student develop serve to connect the student to the institution through a robust offering of affinity groups as a bridge to their sense of belonging.

The Orientation and Belonging Coordinator serves as a member of the Student Life team who are committed to creating a campus community where all feel welcomed, supported, and safe. This position will have primary responsibility for working with orientation programs, registered student organizations, and multicultural programing through heritage and identity month celebrations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Job Duties:

  • Support new student orientation programs in coordination with the Student Development Specialist.
  • Supervise student orientation leaders which includes training and development opportunities.
  • Oversee all registered student organizations and facilitate communication and resources across various organizations with similar themes for increased collaboration.
  • Serve as a liaison between registered student organizations and the Office of Student Life.
  • Provide administrative support for RSO finances.
  • Serve as an advisor, mentor and advocate for systemically minoritized and marginalized students as well as all Registered Student Organizations that identify as social justice, cultural, diversity, or identity based.
  • Assist in managing the professional development series for 40 plus Registered Student Organizations and contribute to University efforts to create an environment that supports and encourages student initiative and leadership development.
  • Contribute to student belonging through management of the Path to Belonging with tracking of student engagement through The Den (Anthology's Engage platform).
  • Work with individual students, as well as groups, to provide resources, referrals, mentorship, crisis intervention, and general guidance as appropriate.
    Duty Responsibilities/Student Life Professional on Call (SLP on Call)
    • Serve in an evening and weekend duty rotation system over 10-months. While on call, serve as a resource to University Housing Staff and Public Safety. The SLP on Call is expected to remain on campus or be within 15 minutes of campus.
    • The SLP on Call will carry a duty mobile phone and respond to all calls.
    • The SLP On Call will follow duty procedures and notify appropriate staff members regarding situations that impact the University community/ residence halls and/or students.
      Additional Expectations
      • This is a live-in position; compensation includes a furnished apartment, Internet, laundry (in building). A pet is permitted with signed agreement.
      • Description of Hours: MON-FRI 8:30am-4:30pm, some nights & weekends/on call

        Qualifications
        • Bachelor's degree required
        • 1-2 years of full-time experience with event planning, student activities, equity, and inclusion programs
        • Programmatic and supervisory experience and demonstrated student organizational leadership experience preferred.
        • Flexible, adaptable, passion for thinking boldly with a commitment to serving diverse student populations.
        • Comfortable working in a fast paced environment.
        • Knowledge of human and student development, group dynamics, personal computer proficiency, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills preferred.
        • Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred.
