Job Details Position: Locum Tenens Physician Assistant – Cardiothoracic Surgery (Cardiac Surgery PA, Surgical Physician Assistant) Weekly Estimated Pay: $4,900 – $5,250 (competitive locum tenens pay) Location: Mishawaka, IN 46545 (Mishawaka, Indiana; local candidates and travel PA applicants welcome) Employment Type: Locum tenens / Travel PA contract Duration: 13 weeks Schedule: Primary shift is 8 Hour Nights; additional call schedule includes Monday–Friday, 7am–4pm; night call 4pm–7am; weekend call 7am–7am Setting: Hospital and Operating Room (cardiothoracic OR; no office duties) Documentation: EPIC EMR Required Qualifications Minimum 1 year of clinical experience as a Physician Assistant in cardiothoracic surgery (Cardiothoracic PA experience required; new graduates will not be considered) Current Indiana state PA license (required at time of submission) NCCPA certification (required) Proven experience with Maquet vein harvesting system (required) Proof of COVID-19 vaccination (required) Current self-query NPDB report (must be current within the month of submission) Ability to perform first-assist surgical duties (cardiac/thoracic surgery first assist required) ACLS and BLS preferred; CPR and ACLS competency required for emergency response Key Responsibilities Serve as first assist in cardiothoracic surgeries, including vein and artery harvesting using the Maquet system Perform pre-op physical exams, wound care, suture and staple removal, and debridement Write prescriptions, order diagnostic tests, and complete discharge summaries as a licensed PA Round on inpatient and outpatient cardiothoracic cases (average ~10 outpatient and 5–8 inpatient cases per day) Provide acute and chronic cardiac and thoracic patient care: histories, physical exams, consultations, and therapy monitoring Manage chest tube removal, pacing wire removal, cardiac rehab coordination, and nutrition needs Document patient care thoroughly in EPIC EMR and participate in multidisciplinary communication with surgeons, physicians, nurses, and cardiac rehab staff Respond to emergencies using CPR and ACLS protocols and participate in perioperative patient safety procedures Why Apply Opportunity to work as a specialized cardiothoracic surgery PA in a high-volume surgical environment Competitive weekly pay for locum tenens Physician Assistant roles Gain hands-on first-assist experience and advance surgical skills with experienced cardiothoracic surgeons Work in EPIC EMR — valuable experience for future travel PA assignments and permanent roles How to Apply: Apply now with your CV/resume, current Indiana PA license, NCCPA certificate, recent NPDB self-query, and proof of Maquet experience.
