Must-Have: ASN Description: The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a
professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of
patients for a designated time frame. The RN provides care to these
patients by utilizing the nursing process, nursing trends,
technology, financial, and human resources within the philosophy of
the institution. Key functions include performing all
responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the
scope of service. The RN implements procedures and theories related
to the specific area of practice. Maintaining up-to-date and
accurate documentation of nursing care provided is essential to
assure the integration of information for the healthcare team. The
RN completes an initial assessment upon patient admission and
develops an appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit
standards based on patient and family needs. Implementation of the
plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures is
a core duty. The RN modifies the plan of care based on continuous
evaluation. Taking responsibility for patient and employee safety
by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents is
critical. The RN communicates directly and in private when
necessary to resolve issues. Offering constructive feedback to
assist in the professional development of peers is encouraged. The
RN confers with colleagues to expand their knowledge base.
Identifying personal learning needs and taking the initiative to
begin appropriate solutions is expected. Fulfilling all
