Job Description:
Comprehensive Medical Physicist in Radiation Oncology,
Interventional Radiology and Hospital Radiation Safety is
responsible for performing all medical physics tasks necessary for
the safe and accurate delivery of therapeutic ionizing radiation in
collaboration with the radiation oncologists, interventional
radiology, and staff of Carle Foundation Hospital. Comprehensive
Medical Physicist in Radiation Oncology, Interventional Radiology
and Hospital Radiation Safety will be responsible for maintaining
State and Federal regulatory requirements specific to the practice
of radiation therapy and radiation safety at Carle Foundation
Hospital. Comprehensive Medical Physicist in Radiation Oncology,
Interventional Radiology and Hospital Radiation Safety provides
physics support for the following four (4) hospital units at Carle
Health in Urbana: (1) Carle Cancer Institute and is responsible for
quality control of all three linear accelerators in the radiation
oncology department; (3) Hospital Safety Department working with
radiation safety officer on implementing all radiation safety
measure for the entire hospital. Those measures are appropriate
utilization of radiation safety precautions by hospital staff,
proper dose monitoring in radiation exposure areas of the hospital,
and proper licensing of all providers who are authorized users (AU)
of radiation sources in the State of Illinois. (4) Comprehensive
Medical Physicist will also provide radiation safety service for
proper therapy of patients with brain tumors with radioactive seeds
(Gamma Tile Cs-131) treated in Neurosurgery Department at Carle.
He/she will create and monitor clinical quality indicators and
collaborates with physicians to ensure appropriate treatment
guidelines are utilized and monitored. Field of Study Related Field
Registered Therapeutic Radiation Physicist - Illinois Emergency
Management Agency (IEMA) Certified Specialist in Therapeutic
Radiology Physics - American Board of Radiology (ABR) Work
Experience Takes radiation measurements on the accelerators and
analyzes the data. Performs radiation therapy treatment planning.
Performs QA procedures on all medical radiation devices and
radiation safety surveys, which satisfy ACR certification
