Description: The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional
caregiver. They assume responsibility for a group of patients for a
designated time frame. They provide care to these patients
utilizing the nursing process and nursing trends. They utilize
technology, financial, and human resources within the philosophy of
the institution. Essential functions include performing all
responsibilities and duties required by the unit. The RN implements
procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice.
They maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care
provided. The documentation assures the integration of information
for use by the healthcare team. The RN completes an initial
assessment upon patient admission. They develop an appropriate plan
of care based on patient and family needs. The RN implements the
plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures.
They modify the plan of care based on continuous evaluation. The RN
takes responsibility for patient and employee safety. They report
and/or correct safety hazards and incidents. They communicate with
others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues.
The RN offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional
development of peers. They confer with colleagues to expand their
knowledge base. The RN identifies their own learning needs. They
take the initiative to begin appropriate solutions. They fulfill
