Job SummaryThe Bridge Technician is responsible for installing,
repairing, adjusting, testing and maintaining all electrical and
communication work on bridges, including bridge programmable logic
controllers and navigation lights.Major Responsibilities--- Perform
prescribed bridge duties anywhere on the Illinois Central (IC)
Railroad System, including Chicago Central and Pacific (CCP)
territory--- Carry out all electrical and communication work on
bridgesWorking Conditions--- The role is primarily performed
outdoors in various types of weather and environmental
conditions--- The role requires regular travel (20 to 30%) to IC
and CCP system territories and beyond the Chicago Terminal and
Elgin, Joliet & Eastern (EJ&E) Zones--- The incumbent has a
regular work week from Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm, and
weekends when necessaryRequirements--- Electrical experience with
design, installation, construction, repair and maintenance of
electrical apparatuses, equipment and systems including 480volt
3-phase power--- License issued by the Federal Communications
Commission of the grade General Radiotelephone Operator or a
license issued by the National Association of Business and
Educational Radio of the grade Certified Technician--- Operator
license qualifying the incumbent to operate a highway vehicle---
Identifies risks and anticipates impacts to ensure a safe and
secure environment--- Follows safety procedures, information
security instructions and Environmental, Social and Governance
(ESG) principles to lead by example--- Addresses risks--- Shares
information--- Collaborates with others--- Solves problems using
analytical thinking--- Responds with agility--- Written and oral
examinationTrainingAn important component of development remains
on-the-job training. Formal classroom training is normally
delivered at CN's Homewood, Illinois Campus for 1 week and consists
of class rules, fall protection, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
(CPR) and First Aid lessons. Third party Programmable Logic
Controller (PLC) training is required once a general competency is
