Position Summary
Assist the head men's and women's cross country/track & field coach
in coaching and leadership aspects of model men's and women's cross
country/track & field programs as they relate to academic
commitment, supervision of staff and personnel, practice
organization and instruction, meet preparation, recruitment and
budget management.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Demonstrate respect for the Catholic and Franciscan values of
the university
- Demonstrate the ability to relate effectively to
student-athletes, coaches, staff, administration and the University
community
- Participate in and promote a culture of continuing quality
improvement
- Assumption of coaching responsibilities related to the sports
of cross country and track & field
- Assumption of certain administrative responsibilities related
to the sports of cross country and track & field
- Provision of assistance: in the management of all home cross
country and track & field meets; in monitoring the academic
progress of student-athletes; in the enforcement of team rules; and
in the instruction and supervision of staff
- Ensure that proper safety guidelines and standards are
maintained
- Coordinate certain strategy related to the sports of cross
country and track & field
- Coordinate all in-season and off-season strength & conditioning
programs for sprinters, jumpers and distance runners
- Plan, develop, direct and conduct all in-season and off-season
practice and strength & conditioning programs for sprinters,
jumpers and hurdlers for meet preparation
- Coordinate all food & lodging arrangements for both home and
away meets
- Responsible for recruitment at a high-volume level in
accordance with university and NAIA rules, including the
coordinating of recruitment for sprinters, jumpers and hurdlers and
assisting in the recruitment of distance runners
- Coordinate all social media efforts for recruiting purposes and
meet-day activities
- Work in conjunction with athletic administration and Financial
Aid Services in awarding financial assistance, specifically
athletic scholarships
- Understanding and support of all athletic policies and
regulations, as well as all philosophies, of the University,
Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference and National Association
of Intercollegiate Athletics
- Understanding and support of the NAIA Champions of Character
Coaches Code
- Represent the athletic department and university in a
professional manner at various internal and external functions and
in working with internal and external constituencies, including but
not limited to the media and general public
- Serve on various university committees as assigned
- Perform other administrative duties within the department as
assigned
- Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- Three years of cross country/track & field coaching
experience
- Ability and willingness to work nights, weekends and
holidays
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the
position
- Willingness to support the Catholic and Franciscan values of
the University
Preferred Requirements
- Master's degree
- Three years of collegiate cross country/track & field head
coaching experience
- Proven ability to recruit at a high-volume level
Hours/Shift/Work Schedule
Full-time hours vary, but do include weekends, nights and
holidays.
Physical Requirements of Position
Work is performed in both an office setting and at athletic arenas
with moderate exposure to varying weather conditions, but minimal
health or safety hazards. Substantial time is spent working on a
computer. This is sedentary work, which requires the following
physical activities: sitting, walking, bending, stooping, finger
dexterity, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity.
Travel is required. Hours of work include some nights, weekends and
may include working up to 12 hours a day.
